Brighton Police respond to a possible threat against Prairie View High. Police in Greenwood Village arrest a suspected bank robber after a standoff.
NATIONAL
NBC News: Police in Moscow, ID reaffirmed details involving the deaths of four University of Idaho students who were killed in an off-campus home in November. Officials say the four victims were killed in a grisly, targeted attack that involved some sort of bladed weapon. Investigators have not released details to support the conclusion that this was a targeted incident, and it is unknown which of the victims was the intended target. This comes after somehow details got released that stated the victims were not targeted.
COLORADO
GREENWOOD VILLAGE
9News: One man is in custody after shootout and standoff with police in Greenwood Village. Police say the man reportedly robbed a bank near Arapahoe and Clinton Thursday morning. He then exchanged gunfire with a responding officer after he was spotted near a Target. The suspect then ran to an Extended Stay and barricaded himself inside. The man eventually surrendered around 6 p.m.
AURORA
Fox31: Aurora Police are searching for suspects who shot at officers while driving a stolen car Wednesday night. APD found a stolen Kia with two suspects inside near Sixth and Peoria. Both suspects opened fire on officers’ cars as they approached, which prompted police to fire back. Four officer cars were struck during the ensuing chase and shootings. The suspects crashed near Tenth and Lima, and escaped on foot.
BRIGHTON
Fox31: Prairie View High School was placed in lockdown after students with weapons were spotted on the property. Brighton Police did not give any specifics about the weapons, but say three suspects were arrested. No students were harmed.
DENVER
Denver7: Paramedics were called to JFK High School Thursday morning after reports students may have overdosed. DPS officials did not give any indication about what substance caused the reaction, but five students needed treatment. Four students were released and sent home, and one had to be taken to the hospital. Earlier this year, the district began providing Narcan for middle and high schools in the city.
9News: Denver Police say the body search of a car theft suspect who shot an officer missed a hidden firearm. DPD officials say Daniel Cheeseman shot the officer on Monday night after he was arrested. According to investigators, a search of the suspect missed a firearm he had hidden on him. Cheeseman managed to get to the gun even with his hands cuffed behind his back, and then opened fire once officers opened the door to the patrol car he was placed in. One officer was shot in the neck, but is now recovering at home. Two other officers responded and one shot Cheeseman several times.
9News: The ACLU is suing a Denver Police detective for a SWAT warrant served on the home of a 77-year-old woman in the Montbello neighborhood. Officers searched Ruby Johnson’s house while looking for a car, guns and cash stolen from a downtown hotel days earlier in the week. ACLU attorneys argue Detective Gary Staab did not do a proper investigation, and did not have enough evidence to get a warrant. Johnson’s home was targeted because of a Find My iPhone ping, leading to the raid.
ARVADA
Fox31: Arvada Police Chief Link Strate will retire at the end of the year. Strate has served in the department since 1987, and became chief of police in 2018. Strate helped create the JEFFCOM Regional Dispatch Center and the Jefferson County Regional Crime Laboratory during his tenure. Deputy Chief Ed Brady will begin serving as interim chief on Monday.
GREELEY
Fox31: Greeley Police caught a possible suspect in the death of a 21-year-old woman. Herminia Marquez was shot and killed early Monday morning. GPD detained one person wanted on warrants out of Larimer County. The suspect has not officially been charged.
BOULDER
Denver7: Boulder Police found a driver who struck a 14-year-old boy outside of Fairview High School and left the scene. Police say the SUV hit the victim Wednesday afternoon as he was riding and electric bike in front of the school. BPD found the driver Thursday, but have yet to file charges.
PALMER LAKE
KKTV: Police in Palmer Lake arrested a man they say made a threat on a commercial building. According to officers, Brennan Martin threatened people inside the building on Wednesday night. Investigators determined the threat was credible, but did not provide further details as to why.
